    Hello.

Quick question concerning the precision M6600.

If I were to install the HD 6970m drivers onto the laptop to make the device think that the FirePro m8900 is the aforementioned card - Will it still be possible to switch to the integrated GPU on the SanyBridge processor to help prolong batterylife just like an actual HD 6970m card is able to?

I understand it may be manually but that doesn't bother me.

I use the 6970m drivers, and as far as I know you can't.

I'd love to be wrong though.

Maybe if you flashed the M8900 to the 6970M BIOS...? I know thats been done before, and may enable it.

I don't think it is possible. There is conflicting info on the ability to engage the Intel graphics, but I've chatted with two different Dell Tech reps (yes, their info is not always current/accurate) and both have said that using the Intel GPU with the AMD M8900 is not possible. Flashing the GPU BIOS will have no effect on that, as the M6600's BIOS would control graphics switching.

With Firepro gpus you can use either pro drivers or consumer drivers, maybe trying a custom bios will work? No choice of having discrete or switchable as a failsafe?

So there's absolutely no way to utilize the integrated GPU?
What sort of affect does that have on the battery?

    Hello,

i also interested in using the BuildIn HD 3000 on Dell Precison M6600 configured with an ATI m8900 card.

Did anyone know what happens when i simple remove the m8900 card from the notebook? Will the Intel GPU takeover the job?

It's not very easy to remove the graphic card. It seems like a small peace of work described in service manual for the M6000.

    Thanks,
    vAL

    I get about 2:30 using a m8900, light surfing/movies/etc.

Try flashing the Dell 6970m VBIOS and using the M17x R3 GPU/IGP drivers.

Don't you need BIOS support to be able to have graphics switching? Many Arrandale laptops with HM55 chipsets with discreet graphics didn't always support graphics switching (like the MSI I ordered).
