    @ TOnt

    I upgraded my friends M6400 from a T9550 to a QX9300 and kept the stock heatsink - no problems. We added silver paste too.

    I did try with 2 sticks of Crucial 8 GB's. I looked at specs of memory for M6500 vs. M6400, both the same =DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64 • : difference is 1024 Meg versus 512Meg; but once installed, the computer would not turn on/boot. Thus am I to conclude the experiment failed? Some comments I found indicated I should reset the Bios. A Dell rep had unofficially told me it could work. And on the Inspiron 8200, I was able to put 2 GB as opposed to specified 1 GB. Hmm!:hi2:

    As a new owner of M4600, i had experienced same problem. I finally figured it out it was a wireless mouse driver conflict. I had Logitech wireless mouse driver installed, it shut down at least once a day. I tried all the tricks mentioned here and it still kept happening. Finally i uninstalled Logitech driver, plugged in usb transmitter again. Let it installed the default Microsoft HID driver. It has not shut down once after that (3 days now)

    Hello everyone.

    I'm currently having an issue with my QX9300 processor. The processor information shows it to be a SLJB5 processor, and reports as a qx9300, however the QX9300 is only showing 2 cores, not 4. The voltages are slightly less than what they should be. In the Intel Processor ID Utility, it does show all 4 cores to be working properly!

    Any idea why this would be a problem?? Any ideas how to resolve the issue??

    Thanks!

    amorsh,

    I just got an m4600 and was wondering what tools you used to test/verify your machine?

    What tools do you suggest and why?

    So far, I've downloaded:

    * CPU-Z

    * HD Tune

    * Memtest86+

    * prime95

    * Dead Pixel Buddy

    I notice Speccy is from Piriform, the makers of CC Cleaner.

    Any thoughts, anyone?

    Thanks,
    Z

    Zach,

    The tools I use to both benchmark any system are as follows.

    CPU-z
    Memtest86+
    Speccy
    HWMonitor (same company as CPU-z)
    Sandra 2013
    3dmark7
    CrystalDiskMark

    On the laptop, you can download the Intel Processor ID Utility (Intel® Processor Identification Utility — Intel® Processor Identification Utility download for Windows*) which is also what I used.

    On that note however, I've successfully fixed the processor issue. Uninstalling the 4 processors showing in device manager and reinstalling them with a reboot fixed the issue. My system is now utilizing all 4 cores.

    Order I normally use to validate used equipment I bought and reconditioned

    1. Validate Memory
    memtest86
    2. Validate CPU/GPU identify and BIOS setup
    CPU-z
    GPU-z
    3. Validate HD health and speeds
    hdtune add in CrystalDisk for SSDs
    4. validate CPU/GPU Temps
    speedfan and Dell thermals (fn+shift) 1,5,3,2,4 then fn+R to make sure speedfan has correct temps
    5. stress CPU GPU to make sure its stable and temps don’t go too high at full load. Watch for themal throttling
    OCCT
    6. Check that video and system drivers for gaming. This normally uncovers video driver issues if any.

    amorsh and laberet,

    Thanks for the info. Definitely what I needed.

    I see HWMonitor and Speedfan are similar tools. I'll try 'em both.

    Do you recommend TRIM for an SSD? Does Crystal Disk allow it?

    I'll be testing the machine all day today. I know Memtest can take a while, so I'll post screen shots of the details this evening.

    Good job on getting that fixed. Do you bother with HyperThreading?

    I'm going to check these things off in the exact order you have.

    I also have an IPS screen. Do you know much about screen color calibration?

    Screen shots tonight!
    Thanks,
    Z
