    Veni either of those should be fine; the Zalman is probably better though. The Antec looks like it's made for show and does not cover as much of the bottom of the notebook with forced air. Also, the notebook will sit flat, directly on the face of the Antec while the Zalman looks like it will raise it up slightly (notice the rubber risers on the top which will elevate the notebook slightly). Check the dimensions - while neither is as wide as the notebook, the zalman's depth is enough to support it. The Antec is much smaller (narrower and shorter) than the m6400.

    Thanks the Zalman one does fit the bill better. Just because of the position of the fans on the underside of the laptop I think Im going to have a shot at making one myself though. I foresee some sort of frankenstein-like monstrosity but it'll be fun I hope :)

    Precision Dell on TV - on an episode of 24 between 7:00 and 8:00 you can cleary see a m6400/m6500 being used at CTU - nice to see it on the big screen damn tv looks like it adds another 10 pounds to it though.

    Well my m6400 from came in - turns out it was not a Covet. It was not listed as "silver" on the outlet but it turns out it is. It does have the RGB-LED edge-to-edge screen though, so I'm happy. I was wondering how bad a silver battery would look in a Covet. I've already upgraded the processor (Core 2 Quad) and hard drives (2 x 640GB), cleanly reinstalled Windows 7 and am installing Linux tomorrow. :)

    I wonder how or even if they differentiate between Covets and silver 6400s? Because when I bought from the Outlet all the ones with no color listed were fitted out like Covets (edge to edge LED, FX 3700GPU etc.) but if you searched for either of the orange colors listed it always said there were none. And I took a few weeks of looking before my price/option choice fit an available machine. No color listed so I figured 'no color' was Covet. But I also just found out that the 3700 card isn't standard on all Covets. Depends where in the world you are. But with the lid open you can't hardly see any color anyhoo. If I may ask, how much did the quad core cost and where did you buy it?

    yeah... Do all precision m6400s have the same upgradeable motherboards ? ( i.e. core2duo to quadcore ? ) Is it easy to upgrade ? I remember there were issues on the HP 8710w since the dual core models needed to change the motherboard to fit the quads. Is this the same with the m6400's ?

    I have a better deal. Get an M7740 and I'll trade you my FX3700M for it :)

    Edit: Too late, I see you already got your Covet.

    The only time I've had to buy parts, or just wanted too, I used The Parts People and through several purchases have only good things to say of them. Their selection is a bit limited sometimes but like the Outlet store changes daily so if you wait...........You choose your model and they show you what they have. I've never used their repair service but wouldn't hesitate too. Try this link;
