We currently have many Latitude D830s with the D/Dock stations on lease. When the lease runs out on these, I'd like to get some M6400s.

Are there any similar docking stations available? We currently drive 3 external LCD monitors plus use the lid on each, but 1900x1200 on a 15.4" screen is starting to affect my eyes as I feel the effects of age.

The only docks I've found so far are the port replicators and it looks like you can't use the lid with two monitors. We'd be willing to sacrifice one monitor, but not two. We also don't want to switch to desktops due to frequent travel.

It's kind of odd for Dell to bill the Precisions as workstations without a dock with a PCI or PCI-E slot. Or did I just miss it?

The M6400 should work with any of the various docks for the E-Series Latitudes and Mx400-Series Precisions. But as far as I know, the D830 and the D-Docks shouldn't support the use of three monitors and the internal display? How are you managing that?

I'm pretty sure you should be able to do anything on the E-Dock that you could do on the D-Dock, so if you were able to do three monitors on the D-Dock, you should still be able to do that on the E-Dock...

I mean, I don't think they'd downgrade the functionality of the docks.

What about an ExpressCard to PCI bus expansion module? Like this (not a recommendation, only an example).

Or depending on resolution, os, and performance a USB2DVI or USB2VGA adapter.

Neither is quite as nice as the D-series dock, but they are options.
