    Hi there.
I just got an m4600 for £220 from cash converters.

    I7 2820qm
    4gb ram
    6700 gpu ?

Where does this gpu come in at?
    Is it any good?

Whats the best i can get for gaming and video processing/editing?

I will write a more thorough spec when i know what im doing lol.
My last comp was a thinkpad t50.
I didnt really know what i was doing with her either.
We managed to make some music in cubase sx3 and i fought my way through a few elderscrolls but that was about it till she sadly passed on.

a long time has passed since then.

Now i want to make documentary type videos as well as music and playing some rpgs.

When i read the reviews for the m4600 i orderd i was very pleased (I'd just gone on the fact it was i7 & 4g ram (expandable to 16) for around £200.

I hope i have written in the right place.
I looked at some of the m4600 gpu posts and im quite confused.
I couldnt see my one in there.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers all.

Thanks for the link ; )

Yeah i hope to have a try at video editing when ive got to know my way around the computer, i spent 5 hours trying to turn the click on the track pad off. Turned out it was a simple download (to my phone then BTed it over to the laptop as i have no security yet and to be quite honest i dont trust any of them)

The M4600 with the 2820QM supports up to 32GB of RAM ;)

Awesome!! I can sit back and watch oblivion play itself lol.

The strange thing is, i checked in bios and it says the current 4gb is just 1 memory card in slot b ??

    It says slots a, c & d are empty.

    Is that normal lol?

Ill get some screwdrivers on Wednesday and open her up for a visual.

If it is just one, could i just get another and have 8gb or do i need a matched pair of 2x4gb?

Also, i notice it says its an amd 5950 in bios when it says 6700m in windows.
How would i find out without disassembling her?

    Thanks : )

32gb ram. Wow. Bet that costs a few quid.

You won't be able to use that kind of RAM if you want 32GB. From Dell's website:
    32GB 4 204-pin SO-DIMM DDR3-1333MHz PC3-10660

Does anyone know a good place to buy extra batteries for the M4600? A bunch of sellers on ebay say that their batteries are original but I have trouble believing that.

1600mHz RAM will work fine. I know because I had it in mine.

    Hi friends.
i bought my friend m4600 and now i want to upgrade it but i need your guidance.
1.it has 2720QM cpu. is it a powerful cpu?
2.it's quadro 1000M was burned and i use it with intel integrated graphic.
What is the best compatible graphic card i can find for it?
3.i have a samsung 850 evo ssd (120Gb) but i want to add another ssd without using caddy.
can i put a msata ssd on the WWAN port?
does WWAN port give me 6.0 G/s speed ?
and can i install Os on it and boot correctly?

    1. 2720QM is good, 4-core CPU, near the top of the Sandy Bridge generation (with 28XX and 29XX CPUs being faster).
    2. Quadro 2000M is the best "supported" GPU but there are other options, I don't remember what they are but I'm sure they're mentioned somewhere in this long thread. You only get graphics switching if you use an NVIDIA card.
    3. mSATA drive can go in the WWAN port. You may need to go to BIOS settings and configure that port to be mSATA. Once this is done the drive will be like any other SATA drive and you will be able to boot from it if you like. Speed will be limited to SATA 2 (3 Gbps).
