This is correct, the only SATA-3 port is the one in the primary 2.5" drive bay. The other ports (optical, mSATA, eSATA) are SATA-2.

Thanks all; did get the function buttons working so I finally can type in peace without the touchpad sending the cursor all over the place.

I recently purchased a Dell Precision M4600 i7-2720QM. Samsung 4x2Gb RAM 1333. I would like to extend it without removing too much. Someone Tested if it works 2x8Gb Kingston 2x2GB 1600 + Samsung 1333?
Has anyone tried if it works 2x8Gb Kignston 1333 + 2x2GB Samsung 1333?

Since you have a quad core processor, it should not have an issue.

What are your IDLE CPU temps with M4600? It's around 60-65 degrees for me and look like bios setting of fan is set to run at max. speed when it hits around 65, so it's crazy.

Also I guess 60 is no way a correct temp for IDLE?

My first one didn't do this but eventually I had some voltage regulator for the video card literally burn up and let the smoke out of the machine. Dell replaced it but I had started using another machine so I didn't touch my 4600 for a few months. When I finally got around to using it again and setting it all up (Dell's drivers are so hard to figure out which ones you need and their autodetect features don't work worth a damn), I've now noticed that if I were to leave it on all day, every day, plugged in with full battery, it will randomly turn itself off. The first time it happened sometime in the middle of the night. Usually it happens if I'm surfing the web and then go away to shower or something and I return and it's off. It's also done it twice while I was using it. No BSOD. No errors. Just like someone pulled the power on everything but, like I said, it is plugged in, no power spikes, and the battery is at 100%. I've yet to contact Dell about it but somehow I doubt they will be much help.

After some Googling there was something to do with Intel Management technology that was suggested to be disabled using CTRL+P at boot up but even after disabling that, it still turned off last night when I left it to take a quick shower.

This is now my second laptop that I am pretty disappointed in the reliability of. The first one was a Lenovo T61p that was crap and flat out died just after 3 years. My previous machine was an Asus that lasted me 8 years before it died and before that a Latitude that was 2 years old when I bought it and lasted another 3 after that before I sold it.

It only comes with CDs if you ordered the CDs. I ordered the CDs (cost $3 extra I think) but wish I didn't waste my money. It's next to impossible to sort through the files on the discs and most of the drivers aren't detected off the CD automatically. I ended up just getting all the drivers from the Dell website. I think I had to hunt elsewhere for the webcam software and drivers, though. Even getting the drivers from the website is annoying because even though they know your configuration it either doesn't list all the drivers you need or it lists all available drivers (including the ones you don't need). The program that is supposed to automatically detect which drivers you need and for updates and whatnot misses a pile of stuff, too.

But mine turns off randomly so maybe I screwed up the drivers somehow.

I know this has been spoken about previously but I didn't see an answer.

I have the AMD m4600 and I cannot for the life of me hook up more than two external monitors. I have three external monitors with that I would like to use with the E-Port advanced. Two are DVI one is VGA, how would I go about getting this to work, I saw somewhere that getting displayport adapters for the DVI and using the regular VGA would work but I don't wand to go spend $40 on adapters for it to now work.

    Thank you for any advice.
