there is no need to make several posts on the same topic, which is in fact against the forum rules here.

but as I stated in your other post, has not been an issue since I applied AS5 to my GPU/CPU

Ya I ended up making a separate thread to catch a wider attention lol. Wasn't a planned act, but more of an after thought, realizing this thread isn't particularly visited often by others. Mod can feel free to correct my wrong.

Hi - I have just ordered a M4600 with 2GB RAM hoping to upgrade with third party RAM (Crucial/Kingston/Crosair/Patriot). Dell configuration only gives 16GB 1600 MHz option (4DIMMS) - so I am not sure if upgrading to 32GB 1600 MHz (4DIMMS) RAM is feasible. If so, can someone please provide me info/links where I can get these? I came across this on newegg: Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10

I am also thinking of upgrading to slot load BD XL Burner (its shipping with DVD Burner). External drives are an option but internal option is preferred for portability reasons. I came across this: Teac Slim Blu-Ray XL Burner Slimline SATA (Slot Load) Drive-TEA-BDW26SSB Does anyone know if it can installed?

    Thanks all for your inputs!

This is the configuration I have ordered: M4600, i7-2760, 2GB, 128 mini SSD + 750 GB HDD, 1080p LED, DVD, Ultimate N 6300, AMD FirePro M5950, backlit keyboard, 9 cell battery

Hi Murthyvs. This is indeed a technical limitation, you can either use a maximum of 32GB at 1300mhz, or 16GB at 1600mhz. You can mix both of them if you want, but the 1600 will then be downclocked to 1300mhz. There is no overclocking option in the BIOS to alter this.
I am not sure what would happen with 32GB of 1600mhz RAM. Either your system would only detect 16GB, or it would default the 32GB to 1300mhz.
Using 32GB at 1600mhz is still rare at the moment so nobody seems to have tried it yet.

You can go for some generic, but make sure it's been tested beforehand (usually called "certified generic"), and is manufactured by a reliable brand. Kingston and Corsair come to mind.

For my Precision, I bought an extra 8GB stick of Corsair Value Select with lifetime warranty (full ref : Corsair Value Select SO-DIMM 8 Go DDR3 1333 MHz RAM SO-DIMM 8 Go DDR3-SDRAM PC10600 - CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9), for 63€ on ldlc.com (European site). If you're American, you can find it here on NewEgg. They're a bargain. Buy 4 and you have a whooping 32GB/1300mhz for $280. But obviously, feel free to pick up any memory you find the best.

    You're welcome Murthyvs :)

@All : By the way, how easy is it to replace the CPU on an M4600 ?
Is it user replaceable like the graphic card? If so, what socket does it use ?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

    Hi Theora - Do you know if this RAM is compatible: Newegg.com - GeIL 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10660) Laptop Memory Model GS38GB1333C9SC

I was about to order the one that you suggested and found this one. 30% OFF makes it $48.30/8GB.

    Thanks!
