hi got m4600 about 2 weeks ago. i would like some help.. i have many many questions
ill start by telling that i tried cleaning the fans and repaste teh gpu and cpu heatsinks.
but something went wrong in the assembly process of the laptop. from my side as i was reassembling in my room wich wasnt to well lighted. so i have entered at the bios before to see if turbo boost was enabled and HT. so i did the diagnostic test all passed (this was before repasting).
after repaste and assembly i turned the computer on but it could not boot due to maybe i removed the battery and wasnt plugged in.. i had to do a repair. cant remeber what it was.. so restarted and enter bios again.. now this time out of curiosity i enter diagnostic test.. and run it. but this time after repaste and reassembly my video fan failed. i again dissconected fan and reconnected. same video fan failed..i plugged video fan into cpu fan socket. and it work so fan was working so it must be the socket after further inspection i had broken one side of the socket housing (bare with me english isnt my language) i see the connector only has 4 wires and socket 5 pins so last pin is unused and thats where it broke. i used crazy glue or what is called like cyan glue if i remeber well. i live in a small town theres no shops around. only one guy wich i take it to him. he said he would solder to the pins. but he called me yesterday and says that theres no sufficient volatage. fan needs 5v and volt meter showed -1 and it still doesnt turn fan on.. my question is could i get the whole socket again and resolder.? is the board damaged where the socket lays and no longer can work.? he said that only thing left to do is to have it directly solder to a 5V in the board.. so fan will be always on. what are my options.?

i also wanted to know wich copper shim size would fit my laptop.?
    thanks

New motherboard is around 20 USD on ebay if you cant repair the connector.

Laptop doesnt need copper shim at all, the m4600 is better cooled than both generations after it...

but at that price are they refurbished.? right now what i did was solder a usb cable to GPU fan and rerouted to outside the laptop and when i need the fan i just plug in the usb.. i wanted to have a switch but probably would do that later.
