Precision m4600 and mSata. Need postive users please.

    I can't believe the mSATA port on the M4600 is only 3Gb/s.

    I think that is Port #1 and I had believed that it was 6Gb/s.

    Dell have got to be kidding surely.

    I'm not sure how effective a RAID-0 set-up will be now.

    My guess is the mSATA bay was originally not purposed for a hard drive. This is where WWAN card normally goes. Just cross adaptation. Still nice for boot if not ready to pay to go full SSD.

    Today, 2.5" SSD's generally have better performance and are way cheaper then their equivalent mSATA counterparts which have only just come out with SATA3 speeds.

    To me this reasoning of using mSATA for a boot drive is not the most obvious and certainly not the most effective alternative available.

    Yes, I have a WWAN card but it can be removed for mSATA install.

    I think possibly there were no SATA3 ratted mSATA drives commonly available when the M4600 was developed so that is why it is only SATA2 compatible on this port.
