Ok, so to my surprise I got a reply from SAMSUNG "memory" support.

They didn't know of any problems with Precision M4500, BUT they WERE aware of problems reported with (840EVO?) SSDs and DELL Latitudes. Apparently, some models sport SATA connectors that show trouble mating with the SSD. So even when from outside the disk looks like it is plugged into the SATA connector correctly, there is no communication. Since the M4500 is a close cousin of the Latitude E6500 (?), this sounds a lot like it could be my issue. For example I already tried connecting the SSD without the laptop front-panel attached to it, to make sure that it reaches the SATA connector, and even then it didn't work.

Apparently, a workaround is possible by shortening some rubber pieces on or around the SATA connector (laptop side). Not sure I'm willing to take that risk, lol. Although I haven't taken a look (not even sure you can GET to the sata connector of the main HD bay on an M4500????).

Did anyone ever try something like that?

Yes, I had the same issue with my m4600. Found this post Replacing or Adding Samsung SSD 840 EVO BIOS not detecting drive in primary bay Precision M4700 Laptop - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community and tried this approach which worked out quite well
So, I guess there is nothing but just an issue with ssd being too thin and so not physically connected to laptop while looking so in the bay
