Hello, could someone please give me some facts about the fan noise?
i buyed a VAIO F-11 last week, its just the perfect notebook, incredible 16" 1920x1080 display, nvidia 330m GT, i7-720, 6GB RAM.. all is perfect.. BUT as some of you may know, the fan is really annoying.. so i would like to know how you experience tha fan of the M4500. if its good, i bring the VAIO back and order the M4500, although its 400 euros more expensive with comperable specs... so any opinions?

    thanks in advance!

Maybe I'm overcomplicating things, but is there a windows 7 format guide somewhere around here? I have a unit with a SSD and want to clean it up, making sure trim and ahci is working and installed, never worked with ssd before. Would rather do it once, then twice.

I wonder if notebooks today run hotter than their counterparts of the past? I know that heat is the enemy of battery lifetime.

Could some recent buyers of the M4500 that got a 2.5" SSD installed by Dell chime in with the Brand and model of SSD they got? Please indicate the country in which you bought from Dell as well.

This would be much appreciated, as I am unsure if I should get the SSD installed by Dell (better warranty cover with 4 years of international on-site service and accident/theft cover) or get a basic drive from Dell and install the SSD myself (can select best available drive).

Prices seem to be very comparable with the discount my company gets by Dell, so that would be a minor consideration at best.

    Any input is much appreciated

They use Samsung PM800's. Most will agree its better to buy a non SSD and pick the best SSD available. I don't think I've seen anyone mention they have anything else from Dell but the PM800.

At the time my 4500's were purchased (in the U.S.), the OS/drivers/apps media was not automatically included when purchasing on-line, but could be added to the configuration for no extra charge. If Dell is charging a fee now, this is a change from a few months ago.

Yes, it's a $3 fee now for the OS disk, another $3 for a drivers disk, and another $3 for the DVD player software disk.

Thanks for the answer. But isn't that a 1.8" drive? Are they using a bracket to install that? From the very little I could find about that drive, this seems to be a less than desirable option at the price, considering the available alternatives.

I bought my M4500 from our reps in Sweden with the 64 GB SSD + 500 GB HDD config. The SSD is a Samsung SSD PM800 mSATA.

So far I'm happy with the performance of the system in general, and the discs in particular.

    Cheers!
