Win 7 will keep the drive spun down unless you are using it. I use mine for storing media which means I don't use it very often. I leave it in all the time and whenever I access it there is a slight pause and I hear it spin up...

I disagree about the 5.9 cap on the Wei. I've got 2 ssd's that I use 1 intel and 1 ocz, they score 7.8 and 7.6. Download "assd" and see what it reports your disk alignment to be. If your sad is not properly aligned you'll get low scores. Wei has been pretty accurate for me and I can tell a big difference between a 5.9 score and a 7.9 on hard disk. If I reformat and mis-align my ssd on purpose I can get it to score 5.9.

I'm eager to try that "assd", can you be abit more specific how I can find it?
Will it work with the Samsung discs?

If you install Windows 7, from scratch, on a blank SSD - there will be no alignment problems.

You can check your alignment using Win7s DISKPART utility, as per these instructions:

SSD Alignment - Windows 7 Forums

I have the exact same screenshot of my partitions, the default 100mb partition on a 1024kb alignment, and then the rest of the drive aligned at 101mb. The amount must be wholly divisible by 64. 101*1024=103424kb divides by 64 fine. More discussion here:

Is everyone exaggerating the steps for SSD alignment when upgrading to an SSD? | Knowledge Base

If you've installed to XP, or you created your partitions manually (e.g. by mirroring a previous disk contents onto the SSD) you might have problems.

The WEI 5.9 issue remains a mystery. Though I agree you may be able to detect differences between WEI 7.8, 7.9 or 7.6... the 5.9 drive cap is not in any way reflective of performance. i.e. I'm pretty sure with my SSD rated at 5.9 I'm NOT losing 25% of it's performance somewhere. ;)

If you're getting 5.7, or 6.2, or any other number other than 5.9 that isn't, maybe that's worth looking into. The point is there is something that forces WEI to automatically rate the drive @ 5.9 and ignore it's true performance. You can while an afternoon away looking into the 5.9 thing:

My advice is... don't waste your time. ;)

Warning! Dell has started to install the 64 GB SSD in the main bay instead of the micro SSD slot!

Happened on my new system: a 1.8" "naked" SSD board in some frame, installed into the main bay. Customer Dis-Service is unwilling to do anything about it, my company will take their six digit a year IT hardware budget elsewhere.

Can't you just specify this on the quote?

I followed the above instruction and made a clean install.
    First partition 200MB aligned=64
    Second partition 238GB aligned=64

When I run AS SSD benchmark I get a 100% improvement from before but still far from what I seen on this forum.

Is the Samsung drive that bad or do I need to tune something else?

I have all the latest drivers from Dell and the Device manager doesn't report any unknown hardware.

    My new test result:

    NEED HELP!!

I have the 1800M gpu and my performance driver from nvidia will not let me oc my gpu. I tried gpu tools, but i still cannot oc. I have oced before with a 880M so i dont think dell is on purposely restricting oc with 1800m

Do you think there is somekind of new drivers that I need to install in order to do this? As far as I know, I think i have the latest drivers. Did anyone tried ocing their 1800m??

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Sure, if you have any suspicion that they are pulling a stunt like this, you could be more specific on the quote. So far, I had not read a single report of the 64 GB SSD being anything else but the mini-SSD drive. One of the reasons I wrote this comment...
