Does anyone know if Dell will be releasing a smartbay module where you can add a secondary hard drive and run 2 of them in Raid 0?

This would of course replace the cd rom drive. So far it looks like there may not be enough clearance.

If this laptop had 2 hard drives like the asus g50v I would buy it in a heartbeat once the better quadro card becomes avail.

Not sure about raid, but there's an e-module with 120GB 5400rpm hard drive available on the accessories page.

    FX1700 maybe?

Presumably the FX 1700m,which was supposed to be available this month.

Yes there is a smart bay hard drive available, but alas is a 120gb 1.8" enclosure.....a 2.5" one would fit in the module bay with a bit of imaginative enclosure design....eg the enclosure not covering the top or bottom of the 2.5" hd....much like the main hard drive.....I've measured it.

Raid is discussed in the online manual http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xlob/dtg/en/en_dtg.pdf

But if you wanted to stripe them, your going to be limited to 2 x 120gb [240gb storage capacity]or whatever the biggest scummy capacity of 1.8" hard drives are,so the whole thing is a bit pointless really as 1 x 320gb 7.2k would probably outperform 2 x 120gb HD's in raid 0..............and if you wanted raid 1 [mirror]setup your limited to 120gb total capacity[or whatever the max 1.8" cap is]

1,8" that's a big let down. Makes the module fairly useless right now, after dumping the second battery option. Lenovo managed to squeeze that.

Anyway, I think with some imaginative design you could fit 2 or even 3 1,8" hard drives in a bay. They come in 250GB sizes as well, but still are horribly slow.

Yea it's slated to be released with a quadro 1770m and a quad core mobile processor (extreme edition). I might get this laptop being that it would be the best 15.4". I might have to forgo raid.

If the asus g50v had a quad core coming I would get that. Either way I believe alot of new models will show up around x-mas time.
