I don't wonder any more about the fan running with a FX1700m, but if the chassis isnt melting with a stressed up GPU :D

the FX1700 is technically an overclocked FX770m. same chip, different clocks and slightly different voltage

the good thing is, if you remember the FX770m overclocking thread i started a while back, is that the FX770m is very overclockable lol.

    someone got 8100 3dmarks, stable.

    Roger that!

Now I understand why the system fan is running all the time.

Is there any way to "underclock/undervolt" the GPU in Business Mode?

I only need that power when Autodesk is running!

    Thank you

i can just imagine how hot this thing would run with the QX9300 and FX1700 both installed.

it would have to run on maximum all the time to maintain a good idle temp. probably going to be in the 90's under load. pity they dint include switchable graphics like in the thinkpad T500/w500

    If i remember correctly:
The only way to get more FPS ingame is to OC the GDDR3 rams, because higher GPU clocks can only be noticed in the Benchs and not in the games?

im not sure, i havent actually overclocked yet, because i got a replacement system, and i want to wait till i've finished travelling for a while so i can have the time to apply arctic silver before overclocking.

to the OP: if you search the forum for my overclocking thread, you should be able to find out how to downclock the GPU as well. i think some people did try that.

New Notebook System Software version released yesterday - link for x64 Vista posted below -

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...eid=R214475&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=303637

While this targets sleep, hibernate, black screen (resume), blue screen errors, and a couple USB & audio issues, I notice one welcome change since installing this update - THE FAN COMES ON LESS OFTEN & SHUTS OFF QUICKER!

It actually allows the GPU to go up all the way to 60 degrees C before kicking in, and switches off in about a minute when the GPU temps go down to about 50 degrees.

Also - the "THM_" temp hasn't gone up once above 47 degrees.

Seems odd that a bunch of Dell released Microsoft fixes would affect the thermal management of the hardware, but it's a definite fan behaviour change as I noted above.

    I ain't complaining one bit.

Max load temps after 1024 wPrime to warm the CPU & Northbridge up, then 3DMark 06 to stress the GPU; x64 Vista on a spinner hard drive.
