Precision 7730 with radeon pro wx 4150

Hello everyone,
I'm waiting my new replacement laptop to be shipped, my old laptop was precision 7710 and due to unresolvable technical issue Dell decides to replace it with the new model 7730.

The GPU in 7710 was firepro w7170m 4GB
And the new GPU is radeon pro wx4150 4GB
The attached picture for for comparison, but still confused which one is better because firepro 265 bit @ 5000 mhz with way more pipelines while radeon pro is 128 bit @ 7000 mhz . I don't have enough knowledge about the meaning of these numbers.

Which one is better?

I looked at the cards on TechPowerUp.

The WX 4150 has a higher clock speed but less than half as many shading units. TechPowerUp's "relative performance" measure actually puts the W7170M as faster by about 20%. Checking some real benchmarks might be a good idea but it looks like you are right to be concerned about this. I would see if you could get Dell to upgrade your 7730 to the WX 7100.

 

Thanks for the response, I already asked them for upgrading the GPU and pay the difference, they apologized they can't change any specs for a replaced laptop.
I may upgrade the GPU later with quadro P series.

Take note that the 7730 no longer uses MXM cards. To upgrade you will have to locate a Dell Precision DGFF card and there is no source for these right now.

I think that if they are offering you a system with lesser specs than what you started with, you should be able to complain to get it upgraded if they have anything better available (which they definitely do in this case). This is different than paying the difference which I know that they will not usually do.

 

Oh! Very important note about MXM cards. I was looking for one of them and save them in cart for later!

They offered me less battery capacity and maybe the gpu. But i already confirmed these specs, maybe complaining that will not work right?

The main issue in my region middle east that the authorized service centers are not familiar with these series of laptops which made my old laptop to become unusable, I will not risk the new laptop to be disassembled again.
I will wait to become the GPUs more available and my work load increase.

Less battery capacity may have been required if your system being replaced had a regular hard drive in it that they were trying to account for. (In this generation you have to choose between the larger battery or a 2.5" SATA drive but not both, as they occupy the same physical space.) And you are right, if you confirmed the specs already I think it will be hard to go back.

The design is somewhat similar to the 7710 that you are already used to. They did add two more exhaust vents (on either side) so hot air can be pumped out faster. With six-core CPUs and mobile CPUs now turboing well into the 4 GHz range, it is no longer possible to run the CPUs at max load and max turbo speeds indefinitely, but you can still achieve that by undervolting the CPU. My 7530 will run at over 4 GHz at short bursts but under a sustained load it hangs out at around 3.7 or 3.8 GHz (this is without any attempt to improve thermals by repasting or undervolting).
