Why why why is this always such a nightmare??

I came from a M6800 and it took me an age getting it to work out of the box, control point , wave , driver after driver, finally cracked it, can't even remember how! Dell support less than useless .

So now have a hugely specified 7710, reader initially showed as a device and I could even enroll fingerprints!

But after doing all the usual updates it has disappeared from everywhere including device manager!

So is there a guide? Is it still the control point nightmare ? Can we use other third party software or can windows just handle it , W7 64b.

    TIA

I had a similar problem with my 7510 when I first got it. The solution was simply to uninstall and reinstall the ControlVault software. (The ControlVault driver package is the only thing required for the fingerprint reader to work.)

yes I have done this a few times and the reader appears but don't seem to have any control software installed for it?

"The selected fingerprint reader has no management application installed"

For Windows 7 and 8, go to the "biometrics" control panel and you can manage it from there.
From Windows 8.1 and up, it is handled by Windows directly. In Windows 10 you can use "Windows Hello". This is under Settings / Accounts / Sign-in Options.
