Did you try running the Crucial Ballistix memory with XMP disabled in the BIOS? (Not the ideal configuration but it would be interesting to know if slowing it down has any impact on stability.)

On the "analysis" and "no results" - yes, I ran memory tests in the bios (the simple + extensive - which took about 6 hours to run) and the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. There were intermittent issues found - but this has been over a month+ where sometimes issues are found, sometimes issues aren't found.

I agree, I don't want to give up on the RAM quite yet - I'm just trying to gauge, based on my initial experiments, if others have run into this situation, especially given removing the memory seems to help.

It's a good call to reach out to Crucial - I'll try that as a next step.

    Thanks for the tips/help/suggestions!

    Consider running a multi-day test with Memtest86+.

The Windows memory test isn't particularly reliable (or so I've been told).

I think MemTest86+ is better at catching issues than the Windows memory test. I've had cases where MemTest86+ shows RAM problems when the Windows memory test does not. (...Probably just because it does a wider variety of tests and it will run for as long as you want. Windows memory test wraps up too quickly.)

However, if Windows memory test is reporting any problems, then I don't think you need to fall back to MemTest86+. There's a problem. (Might not be that the modules are bad — it could be an issue between the modules and the system as well, which is probably the case here.)

just got a 7560. Same specs at my 7760 (in sig), Turned it on. Just have the spinning dots at the Dell Logo. Been going for around 4 minutes. I believe on my 7760 the setup started right away. I have not called dell yet. Any ideas on how long I should wait?

    EDIT:

6 minutes in the Windows Setup showed up.

I am using Kingston RAM and no problem so far. Can send the Ballistix back for refund? Could you take a look at the administrative events? Do you have any (critical) error(s)?

My Ballistix RAM has been working without much issue, though I'm not doing much right now on the laptop.

Does anyone else experience squeaking from the display hinges? I perform open/close cycleson my laptop no more than thrice per day; when I walk away, I often leave the laptop at around 30° open and locked. This is no different from the 7740 that I had before and for much longer, yet that computer never squeaks, I can't move my 7760 around whilst open without the hinges squeaking and it's really annoying. It's something that I would expect out of a cheaper laptop, never a Precision.

This happened to me after I had my 7560 for a few days. I ended up deciding that it wasn't the hinge, but something with the bezel plastics — At request from another user, I removed the bezel and display panel to capture details about the panel and display cable. When I put the bezel back on, the squeak was gone. It has not come back.
