I will have my 7750 on Monday. I chose it over 7550 hoping it will run a bit cooler due to the size. At the same time it seems to be a bit smaller than the previous model since they shaved off the side bezels a bit, which is cool.

Yes, I'm on version 2004. Switched to High Performance and fans have gone nuts. Something is really buggy. It's in high performance mode but clicking on "advanced power settings" opens the window for... Balanced???

Are you by any chance using docking station with multiple displays? If so then it might be the Displaylink issue.

I'm using a USB C hub to connect my keyboard and mouse, that's it. I've also tried with the hub plugged in with nothing attached to it, same issue. Temp2 goes nuts.

Well, I checked my Windows 10 2004 VM and it does show a lot more options than yours. It was upgraded and not installed fresh, though. Really strange, if that's related; I'd understand if they took away some of that stuff but options like "power buttons and lid" actions should really be settable in any plan.

I will admit, I transplanted the old SSD from the 7540 into the 7550 without any other modifications. Windows started right up but threw some strange errors. If this is the root cause of my problems (different chipset drivers, different configuration, etc.) then I will do a system reset tonight and reinstall everything.

I've done this many times. I've heard a lot of recommendations against it but I've never had any issues... It was really tricky to do properly before Windows 8 but in that OS they added detection for when your install is moved to a new instance and it does a hardware device discovery at first boot and then it should be good.

For example, my work PC Precision 7530 OS was transplanted from a Precision 7510 and I haven't had any trouble with it at all.

I was wondering if maybe some other software (maybe even Dell Power Manager) mucked with this. Those settings can be hidden and shown with registry settings. I ran across this thread which looks pretty similar.

I did enable virtualization in the BIOS. Could this be the root cause?

In my experience, it depends if you have Modern Standby enabled or not. I can toggle the settings in the BIOS (thanks, Lenovo) and see the difference. Let me know if you really want me to do that and post a picture.

    Modern Standby = few settings.
    Regular Standby = many settings.

What a disappointment! I remember people criticize this high temperature issue of PCH probably since 7730. Two years later, this critical issue still exists. Back to two years ago, some people suggested a workaround but not a solution: set balance mode instead of high performance. However, the reason people pay a high price for a workstation because they want their laptops work at a high performance for a long time. What a shame of Dell. I knew this a long time ago, but still ordered a 7750. I thought after two years they should solve this but they didn't. Maybe they do this intentionally...
