Yes, I am thinking at this point that a May release is unlikely (though they could be announced in May, just not for sale) — but June/July could happen.

Do you have a sense of much of a speed improvement we could expect from the 2021 lineup vs the 7750 (or in my case, a 7730)? I hammer away at Adobe Lightroom Classic all day. Speed is always an issue. I've been looking at the hardware recommendations at https://www.pugetsystems.com/recomm...ightroom-Classic-141/Hardware-Recommendations wondering how noticeable newer hardware could be. (I've already stacked RAM and SSDs on my 7730.)

Depends on what the bottleneck is in your workload. On the CPU side, you would benefit from the drop to 10nm (finally) and IPC gains from Sunny Cove and Willow Cove, but there you're looking at 15%-20% performance boost (best case, maybe less). Going from six to eight cores could be beneficial if your workload is multithreaded. On the GPU side, going from Pascal to Ampere will be a pretty substantial upgrade, maybe double the performance or more. I imagine that Lightroom is more CPU-constrained, though.

Lightroom sounds very task-oriented, with some tasks relying more heavily on CPU and other tasks more heavily on GPU. It's known to be a dog's breakfast either way.

Unless I see a crazy good deal on a 7750, I'll wait a few weeks and see what the next version looks like.

Thanks for your input, as always.

My USB-C ports are iffy and don't connect properly unless massaged and wiggled several times. Upon my various disassemblies of the notebook, the 7530 appears to have some sort of bracket or something over the ports. Is there a way I could replace these ports alone without swapping out the entire motherboard?

Your system is still under warranty, right? (Just under three years since the 7530 launch.) Might be worth getting this swapped out "officially" before it goes out .....

It is, yes; almost exactly 3 months left on the warranty (15 August 2021). I was thinking of getting it replaced, but as a semi last-resort.

For the record, I wanted to add on another 2 years, but I was quoted S$700 (US$525), so I passed on that. I don't think I'll bust the notebook in another 2 years, so... I might just take the motherboard replacement.

What do you think of the chance of a May announcement for a replacement for the 77xx now that it's May? I'm feeling the need for a faster computer.
