Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

I would try the below first:
- Update BIOS. Sometimes, this helps
- Use another USB connector. Just plug that mouse in another slot. Se if it persists
- Use another mouse. See if the issue persists while using the same USB connector
- Change Video Player. See if issue persists
- Reinstall Windows OS. See if the issue persists

If, after all these 5 tests the issue will persist, then you should call Dell Tech Support. If the issue persists on the same USB slot, or multiple USB slots when using a different mouse and you reinstalled Windows, then Dell will need to replace the system board of the laptop.

I updated the bios just now, hope that fixes it.

 

Hello fellow 7x30 owners, Ive just joined the Precision members club
Received my 7530 yesterday (8850H, P3200, 128GB RAM 2x 512 NVME) and my impressions so far are:
- My fingers like the keyboard, its a bit basic next to my XMG Neo 15 mechanical one, but I seem to type more accurately on it.
- Speakers are a tad weak, loudness equalisation "enchancement" using HD Audio driver makes them a bit better, but definitely not the best
- Chassis seems pretty robust and looks like it can take a bit of a beating
- 45% gamut screen is rubbish, but I knew it was going to be and should be ordering a 144hz replacement very soon
- p3200 seems to be capped at far too low clocks, would like to know how we could unlock it as I can see on 3dmark someone has managed to OC it pretty far using in a 7530 (https://www.3dmark.com/fs/16588023). GPU temps are nice and low, though high CPU usage seems to add a fair chunk of temp to GPU via shared heatpipes (GPU temps are the highest on the CPU benchmark part of Firestrike, during GPU portions of 3dmark temps sit around 60c).
- CPU temps are ok-ish after a repaste & -0.125v undervolt, otherwise it hits over 95c pretty quick . but the bottom panel seems to add 10c, so those air intake vents could probably be a bit bigger.
- Battery life is ok with dGPU disabled, guessometer displays around 7-8 hours of runtime, but I know other machines would give you at least a few hours more with the same capacity battery / cpu. CPU package power usage seems to go lower than my Tongfang, have seen it show 0.4w, which seems pretty good.


I have a question to anyone with P3200 and 240w power brick, I read somewhere on this forum that getting 240w power brick yields better scores, so just wondered how many % does it improve by? I have already flashed 7730 vbios, but my firestrike score is only about 11.5k points.

Also, is there any way of maxing out the fan on this laptop? It seems to be lagging behind a bit and only really starts kicking in once CPU temp is over 90c.

 

One user reported better performance with the vBIOS "upgrade" plus a 240W PSU attached. I don't know where the post was but I don't remember the performance gain being super substantial. That 18,000+ score seems way too high...

Check DellFanCmd (in my signature) for options to override the fan control. (I don't have any qualms about running the CPU at over 90C, though.)

 

It’s too high, and the Graphics score approaches nearly 23000 (almost 2x the performance of the P3200)... Because that person was using a second eGPU, the RTX 2080 Ti, to run the test:

Clearly 3DMark’s hardware detection is pretty buggy, because it doesn’t detect the correct VRAM for the P3200, and the clocks are swapped.

 

If you do coding, you'd be in hell. I never even tried using this thing for graphics -- I couldn't manage to finish basic set-up. Installed my browsers, chat, logged into some sensitive accounts (yet another round of password-changing), and couldn't get any further because nothing on that screen is readable.

I double-checked the German review -- https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-...Quadro-P3200-Workstation-Review.346631.0.html -- and if you squint, PremierColor's telling them the same thing: week 36, 2015.

So far that's the only date I've seen; I think I dredged up one complaint from a buyer about a 2014 screen in a 2015 machine, but no details beyond that.

It looks like this is a firmware issue; the only way to get a date/serial number will be cracking the lid open and seeing if Sharp labeled these things. (Dell rep tried to claim the serial number was a Dell trade secret. SMH.)

 

Ah yes, mystery solved then. I did wonder about how he would have managed to get the device to cope with double the power draw that one assumes he would require to hit that score.
Quick question for anyone who's swapped their screen panels, - which one would you say is the best 144hz panel to go for right now?
Also, looking up my display ID seems to indicate its a 30 pin screen, does that sound correct to anyone who's upgraded their 45% gamut panels?

 

Thanks Aaron, this is great. Quick question - is there a way to control fan speed directly via your utility / from CLI? Was thinking of doing a quick powershell script to avoid having to mess around with speedfan.

 

The utility does allow you to set the fan level from the CLI but only for setting it to a fixed level. There is no support for, say, measuring the temperature and reacting based on that.
Do note that the max fan speed achievable with this method is actually not quite as fast as the max fan speed that the system will kick up to if left to run on its own. There is discussion about this in the thread.
