My company has recently taken delivery of several Precision 7510 and 7710 notebooks of varying specification. All of them have M.2 PCIe SSDs as primary drives - and all of them throw error messages when trying to enable hardware encryption (through bitlocker).

Has anyone come across anything similar?

    What is the error message?

I'm assuming your company has other BitLocker deployments? (Just making sure that you're familiar with initial steps needed to set it up --- activate and initialize TPM, etc.)

I don't actually work in the IT department so I don't know the exact error I'm afraid, I'm waiting for new laptops for some of my new hires. The IT guys mentioned a BIOS or firmware issure, unsure if it's motherboard or SSD specific.

This is a 1000+ employee company, standard laptop configuration is Dell with Windows 7 and Bitlocker activated so there shouldn't be any problems there.

Like Aaron said, I'd make sure the TPM chip is enabled (check BIOS) and then make sure to prepare the TPM chip (settings panel in OS) before enabling bitlocker.
