    Hi folks,

I got a shiney new M4600 just before christmas and now its as useful as a shiney new door stop.

Problem started last monday when I found it would not start up. Press the power button, which turns white and that's as far as it gets. No fan, no beeps, no video, no nothing.

Dell say it need a new motherboard but they havn't got any and don't now when they will have one in. Having been a Dell laptop own for 15 years and usually having been very happy, I can't say I'm too impressed by this service, but there you go.

Has anybody had similar experiances, and any idea how this might be fixed? I left it a day and its worked fine for a week, and now the problem has returned.

    Thanks

Nightmare. They all come with the next day on-site service right?

It seems unthinkable that they just don't have any motherboards and can't even say when they'll have one. Did they offer you anything while you wait like a loan machine or anything?

Makes you wonder what the point of the next day service is if they don't have any parts!

WHAT? I find it extremely hard to believe that they do not have the motherboard.

You sure about this? Wow... You sure the tech agent just couldnt locate the parts in his system?

Thanks, I will try testing the memory.

The latest on this, another 10 days and they MAY have the parts in stock, but they don't know.

LOL, next day service was actually same day service to say ' we haven't got the parts but we hope to get them in a couple of days' That was 9 days ago. Courtesy call to let me know thye would take longer - not a chance.

So, can I have a replacement laptop? No we don't have any... But you're Dell?

Can I have a loan of a laptop?, No we don't do that.

Can I have any assurance you will get it fixed soon? Well no...

Oh, and thanks for not letting me know any of this proactivly.

As I said I've been with Dell for 15 years and always been impressed by their products and service but this is just plain rubbish.
