I can see the taskbar (clock and icons) faintly even at the BIOS POST screen. This is really annoying. Its definitely there all the time, even when i run a full screen dvd and there are black lines on the top and bottom of the screen i can see it...

how on earth did this happen? i thought plasma burn only happened on well...plasma screens lol....

this is extremely rare but I have seen it on LCD's before(well only once other than now). it is just a defective part you are going to need to replace the screen. Call Dell they can help you.

I agree, get them to replace your case, where your paint is flaking off while their at it.;)

I remember hearing about screen burn on really early LCD screens, but not for a long time, until now.

For LCD's I believe its called Image persistance, and it is rare. My dell 8600 developed it after 3 years however I was able to get rid of it by running a white screen over night. I don't think you need to worry about getting a different brand screen I think its more just random luck then brand quality. If you like the monitor you have I would stick with it and get the same one replaced since your laptop is so new. A fresh LCD one should do the trick. Good luck!

the monitor is ok, just the uneven backlight is annoying, and i think its not just my particular one, as others with the samsung screen have reported this. havent really seen any reports about screen frm alternate supplier.

    how does image persistance occur?

ah its ok, i found the wiki on it. the display does go off overnight.....think i do need to get it changed, cos it dosent go away in spite of that

My old D800 would "burn in" the top window bar (I often have apps maximized) and the task bar, but only when the brightness was set up high. Unlike a plasma screen an LCD will recover from this if you turn the brightness down for a while or leave it off for a while.

I haven't seen the same effect on my E6500 with the LCD backlight.
