Parallelling Batteries

    To increase battery life I was thinking about adding more cells in a parallel connection to the Dell 9 cell battery. Right now the single pack is 3S3P (3 cells in series, 3 in parallel).

    I was going to make my own enclosure and use one Dell battery as the connection to the laptop. The other packs would be harvested, and the cells would be wired to the single pack in a 3S9P or 3S12P combination.

    My question is the Dell battery has the wear meter and all the board inside. Is the board and laptop going to be able to read higher then the range of a single battery?

    You cannot add additional cells that aren't balanced, as it will discharge unevenly and potentially give you worse performance. Furthermore, it's difficult to find quality lithium-ion cells...

    Does your laptop support a modular bay battery?

    Well I was going to use cells from Dell original packs only, and make sure the wear meters were close. Charge the cells equally first before I solder and wire them into the pack formation. Also the charging circuit in the Dell laptop balances the cells. A few cycles and the voltages should be good. This is no different then the factory building the packs, pulling bulk cells from the inventory.

    I'am not sure if the M6600 laptop can use the 30Wh e-modular battery. I will try and search again.

    I read that it can't use the Slice 97Wh battery, the one that connects through the replicator port. I don't see why, unless the M6600 motherboard doesn't like it. I see the new M4700 and M6700 are able to use it according to the specs. It is not listed for the M6600.

    Even between Dell OEM packs, the battery OEM and type of cell can differ (ie. LG, Samsung, or Sanyo cells). With lithium-ion batteries, I would not recommend taking the chance unless you really know what you are doing.

    Battery slices use notches in the base of the laptop to attach securely (otherwise it will put too much strain on the docking connector), so that would be my guess as to why it won't be supported.

    Where can I find the "code" of the 97Wh slice battery for the m4700?
