    Hi everyone

just thought i'd get peoples' opinion on a vostro 1510 im in the process of ordering and what kind of performance i could expect from it:

the current laptop I am using is in my sig, so thats what im coming from!

    - Vostro 1510 Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz)
    - - 8X DVD+/-RW
    - - 320GB HD Serial ATA (5400RPM)
    - - Dell Bluetooth 360 Card
    - - Ship Mod
    - - LCD Black Back Cover
    - - LCD Back Cover Black with 1.3MP Camera
    - - Battery Primary 6-cell 58W/HR LI-ION
    - - Internal English Qwerty Keyboard
    - - Intel 4965WLAN Mini-Card EUR
    - - MS Vista Premium Logo Label NB (small
    - - 4096 MB 667 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 (2x 2048 MB)
    - - 15.4 WUXGA TLF
    - - No Anti-Virus Software
    - -256 Mb NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    - - Windows Vista SP1 Business
    - - English Windows Vista Business

now, i know the resolution on teh 15.4" screen is VERY high for something that small, but lets just say I have used a similar laptop, i think it was an inspiron with the same size screen and same resolution and its perfect for me! just gna take a day or two get used to i suppose

    anyway, what does everyone think?

and more importantly, what is the build quality like on these dells? ive only ever experienced IBM's for long periods of time and the few inspirons i have used arent exactly thinkpads!

any input is very much appreciated, and needless to say i will be swapping out the 320gb hard drive for a much smaller faster alternative.

    many thanks,

The 1510 certainly isn't known for it's build quality, I would take a look at the E5500 and E6500 Latitudes if I were you, have they dropped the price in the UK?

and this is another thing i am worried about

so many people are saying the build quality of the vostro 1510 is rubbish, yet so many say its great

riach3, what are you comparing the vostro to? i also have a toshiba a200 in my hands and im more than happy with the build quality on that to be honest.

    many thanks

well thats good to hear then.lol.

i have noticed consistent reports about flex in the keyboard, but i am EXPECTING the keyboard to be inferior to the thinkpad im using right now, simply because, if the keyboard is anything like any of those on the current generation inspiron/latitudes then it is pretty crap compared to the ibm's

should have this machine with me by monday by the looks of things so i'll report back once i have it in my hands!
