I got a great deal from Dell with their recent sale. I got a nicely equipped Vostro 2510 with Windows Vista Biz and XP Pro free for $601 plus tax and free shipping. My main concern is the GPU (8400GS 256MB) as it's the soldered type which I believe is still a problem.

Has Dell or Nvidia addressed or fixed the problem? Should I just cancel my order?

Nvidia has modded there drivers to extend the life of the affected GPU's and Dell has offered I believe some BIOS fixes also to extend the life of the card.

So the problem still exsist's but that estimated time till occurance should be over 3years now.

I would also be willing to bet that the GPU will last at least 3 years - likely more.

therre are my two questions for you...
    1. will you game(on this computer)?
    2. do you want to keep this as your primary computer for a reletively long time? >3years.

    Answer to question #1
Yes as I play Football Manager 2009 (only game)

    Answer to Question #2
It's possible as I tend to keep my laptops for around 4 years.

I use my laptop to watch TV, internet, email and light gaming. I hope it makes it for 3 years. At 3 years that's $215 per year for the laptop.
