If online, the the only haggling you'll do is with the deliveryman. Can do any haggling online only in person maybe phone.

if you're only ordering one unit, i believe the salesperson only has the authority to give maximum 15% off. he'll need to justify to his team leader if he goes above that.

I used the art of negociating... my laptop was 2024$ Canadian, and I got it for 1638$ before taxes and free shipping after negotiating (+ a free Linksys wireless N router, because he said my laptop had Latitude ON, when it did not)
My laptop specs on the signature.

    How I did it:
    - I build my computer for myself, put everything on paper.. then downgrade the HDD to a smaller size, took the 6-cell battery, took Wireless G, and so on.. I called, and FIRST thing I ask were the warranty (like if you knew NOTHINg about it)... Then about the laptop, then build the laptop with him, ensure with him that the warranty is in, and STOP... ask him the price, and hesitate. Act like if you did not expect such great amount and were consideration a cheaper Lenovo with similar specs. Then he will give you free upgrade, still hesitate... and then boom more free upgrade and like 300$ off. Take his name, and extension, and WHEN he works. End the conversation to place the order another time. Call back the next day, re-present your self, and say give me 50$ off and I'll take it now. He will see with his superior, and he might say something like 30$ but then he will have to let me go.. Agree and buy it.

Of course, that is in Canada. The more warranty you buy the more Dell can give you. Some people got more like a free bluetooth card because they took some accidental damage protection.

haha that's some good advice. hopefully i can pick up the dell e6400 the same way. currently on promo for 1299 base config.

actually, i was wondering how many tries did it take for you, ie how many reps did you go through? i'm assuming each rep will differ with the response.

One. I meat the Sale Rep over Chat, then I called him after his offer via e-mail to give me free-shipping.

Last time I talked to sales rep over chat, they wouldn't give me anything, so I didn't buy. The rep said that they couldn't do that in Canada, only in the US... what BS! Oh well, their loss.

No you can't do anything over chat.
It must be over the phone at 100%.
