First let me say a BIG thank you to all those before me who upgraded their systems to x64 and made available links to all the drivers. I can't tell you how much it is appreciated.

So - I recently decided it was time to "up" my Vostro 1710, which has been a real powerhouse for me for a long time.

First, I took it from 3GB to 4GB ram, ordering 2 667mhz chips (recommended by Dell) - problem I test with cpuid and they test at 332mhz?

Second, I upgraded one of my hard drive slots (primary) to SSD - and found the tweaks to make that work well. (initially I had the same problem I am about to explain, but deleting all of the IDE items in device manager and reinstalling seemed to fix)

Third, I wanted to use x64 and take advantage of 64bit development software and more. Took me a while to figure out drivers, but now I seem to have them all - problem is sustained reads on the HDD are absolutely painful. It took an hour to install I-Tunes, almost a full 8 hours to install all the "needed" software for my system, and continues to run horribly.

    Background information -

Indexing is off, all 3 of my HD are set to write cache, page file doesn't affect it on/off/mixed/only on primary, etc.

I do not use ready boost.

Anything I do that "hits" the hard drive shortly has amazing speed.
Anything I do that "hits" the hard drive for more than 2-3 seconds drags to a crawl. i.e. I download a file using google chrome, it starts at 10 seconds, and quickly drops to 5, then everything STOPS and it ends up at a minute until it starts moving again in 20-30 seconds.

I read another post regarding something about Turbo memory, so I tried to install that specific driver, but I can't tell if I have turbo memory or if this is affecting me? I also turned off ACHI and turned on ATA and it installed different drivers but still does the same thing.

    Any suggestions?

This is normal; DDR RAM -> Double Data Rate RAM; 332*2 = ~667

Also, what is the model of your SSD drive?

    Transcend 192 GB, TS192GSSD25S-M

I purchased 2 of them, but decided to leave my 2nd drive my old 320 7200 RPM for storage mostly, but I barely use it.
