I have a Latitude E7250 on which I had set up a clean install of Windows 10 Pro w/ Anniversary Update. I have the computer set to do nothing when I close the lid since I often times wanna shut the lid and move somewhere else without whatever's running being interrupted by the system sleeping.

With that said, often, but not always (about 8 times out of 10) when I shut the lid, the computer just kinda freezes up. When I open the lid back up, I have a black screen, system is totally unresponsive and I have to do a hard reboot. However, I have also noticed this issue does not happen at all if I have any sort of audio playing. So far, my solution has been to just make sure an MP3 is playing whenever I shut the lid but it's kinda annoying having to do that.

I've tried updating the audio drivers, using Windows generic audio driver and there's not a power management setting I haven't changed. I also have Intel's latest chipset drivers installed.

Anybody else here have this issue in Windows 10 and/or a clue what's going on?

in addition to telling your laptop to "do nothing" when the lid is closed there is a bunch of other settings that may override or cause it to behave unexpectedly

press the WIN keyboard cap... type "power options"... click "change plan settings"... then click "change advanced power settings"...

then scroll through each thing and see if something there is timing the laptop out

Nothing that I can see. Also, I forgot to mention this but the same issue happens whenever Windows turns the display off. Whether plugged in or on battery seems to hold no relevance.

in that case it does sound fuggary. I don't think it is a win10 thing specifically as I've not see this on my 4 different model laptops using win10. Is this a recent problem after installing win10? or has it existed awhile?

Not sure. I've been meaning to backup my data and try re-installing the OS as well as maybe trying Windows 7 or Linux but that'll have to wait a little bit. I've had several other laptops with 10 and not on one did I have such an issue.

Have you tried disabling LPM for your drives?

I'm thinking the issue might have been something physical. Since a recent teardown and rebuild of my laptop, I haven't observed the problem. Still seems odd to me but in this light, I'm thinking maybe a fault or a short circuit would be the easiest explanation.
