Nvidia Maxwell & M6600/M6700/M6800 bios

Since you should have an iGPU as well, assuming the HP video BIOS isn't so "crippled" that it doesn't even allow the computer to detect the video card, there's a chance you might be able to get away with a software solution. I'll let other, more experienced users chime in on this point.

The more certain way would be to source a Dell video BIOS dump, flash that into an appropriate chip and swap it physically on the video board. But that's obviously the "hardcore" route (you'd need an SPI flash programmer and a hot-air station to swap the chips).

 

It sounds pretty hardcore. No way for an amateur like me. Maybe anybady will find any solution soon.

It isn't that hard. You just need to download the correct flash tools and have a non-HP vBIOS for the card and you are good to go!

There should be instructions on this forum on how to use the nVidia flash tools. I don't have my main laptop with me but I did buy a K4100M for my M6800 before it got upgraded to a 980M. At first when switching to the K4100M, it will cause the system to hang. I thought the card was faulty and tried to return it to the seller which refuted the issue.

Eventually, someone told me the card might be from a HP system and to flash it with a non-HP vBIOS. I did some research and got a fellow member here to extract the vBIOS from his Dell K4100M. After flashing... the rest was history! I have a working K4100M!

 

Need to keep the thread alive, i have a m6600, holding out because Eurocom has a gtx 970 75 watt TDP card upgrade for my m6600. Would be the perfect machine to hold the 970 the m6600 is cheap and grabbing a 970 would make it more futureproof.

 

Oh wait, it's not in another thread. It is in this thread in post #2. I've quoted it below. Kepler and Maxwell gen cards don't work on M6600.

 

Since I posted that I've heard a few stories of Kepler-based Quadros working (i.e. K5000M), that seems to be hit or miss. I don't understand the particulars (don't have a M6600). Maxwell (GeForce 900-series) is out, though, we only have one success story there and it was someone who got it to work under Windows XP but was unable to get it to work with any newer Windows OS. The issue is with the system BIOS.

 

A bit like the P5000 not liking the M6800... but someone (in another forum) got it to work and one guy on this forum tried to replicate it but failed. Could be a fluke for the success story...

 

P5000 is understood to work with M6700 with IPS display (eDP), but no other M6X00 configurations.

 

Is it possible to put in a m6700 mainboard into a m6600?

Most parts should be the same. But don't know about connector to display (if m6700 is eDP or not)
I guess m6600 is no eDP?

 

No, the exterior looks the same but the interior is different, the motherboard will not fit.
