    Hi there,

I have both the machines mentioned above, and am considering getting the Nvidia 3d bundle.

Can anyone answer the following questions:

    1) Do I have to run Vista?
My XPS is running XP, and a quick check shows that only the 32-bit SLI drivers for the 8800s are available: No 64 bit versions on the Dell site.

    2) Will SLIed cards still work?

    3) My M6400 has Vista 64, but will the 3D work with a Quadro card?

    Many thanks!
    James

What is Nvidia 3D bundle... do you mean Nvidia 3D Vision (http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_Main.html). If so:

1- Yes you need to run Vista or Windows 7. You have no choice, as XP simply can't support such technology. I recommend to use 64-bit OS as this is preatty system intensive.
As for your Nvidia drivers.. forget Dell, go to Nvidia website and download the notebook drivers of your graphic card. They are available in 64-bit for Vista and Win7.

2- 1 video card or a SLI setup will work just fine.

3- Yes it will run, but I think you need to install the Geforce drivers instead of the Quadro for the best performance in your games. All Geforce drivers are the same.. Nvidia has 1 driver to rule them all per OS.
Quadro drivers are the same as Geforce but instead of having gaming performance optimization is has optimization on CAD software. Of course, the Quadro GPU itself is optimized for CAD rather than gaming, but it doesn't prevent you form installing the Geforce drivers instead.

NOTE: to make 3D Vision work properly you need a 120Hz display. Your laptop screen is 60Hz at best... so it will flicker and you'll have a headache.
Nvidia lists several projector and LCD models (like the 2 only models that exists). Of course, if you have a high end CRT (the old computer monitors with the tube) screen in hand then settings it up to 100Hz (or higher) will do the trick just fine.

Thanks Goodbytes - Yup, I was talking about the bundle that comes with a monitor too.

I guess I'll take the plunge and reformat my XPS - and maybe try and get the drivers for the M6400.

    Thanks!

Can anyone confirm this? I've just run the test tool on my M6400 and it tells me I have a Quadro, so can't use the 3D glasses. Now, do I simply downloaded drivers and modded inf for 8800 from laptop2go?

    Many thanks

I installed the latest WIn7 drivers and now I get the stero option in controil panel. Great!

However, when I run the setup wizard the IR emitter is never recognised (driver search fails), so I miss all that 3d goodness. At this point I haven't installed any NVida drivers from the CD, I've only used the Foreceware drivers. (The NVidia ones won't install)

    Anyone able to help?

Use the Nvidia desktop drivers for WIn7.

    - Start the setup. The setup will extract the files THEN execute automatically the setup which will fail
    - Now, download the modded file from laptopvideo2go
    - Go to C:\NVIDIA\ open the folder where the driver are (this is the extracted drivers from the setup that failed).
    - Then paste the downloaded file inside Nvidia driver file. (you should override a file of the same name)
    - Once complete, from where you are in the folder structure start the setup.

So, basically you do exactly the same thing as you would do with the laptopvideo2go drivers. but you use the Nvidia desktop drivers instead.
