    Hi guys,

I have a friend who's trying to order an M4400, and Dell is telling her they can't sell her that laptop because she doesn't have a business tax ID.

When pressed on the issue they just keep saying they can configure a nice M6400 instead.

Does that make any sense? (It doesn't to me?)

She wants to use Dell because she has credit on her account, but she can't carry an M6400 around because it would aggravate old back injuries. (Also it's as big as her torso...)

Thats complete crap. The M6400 and the M4400 are equivalent with respect to dell policies.
You dont need to be a business to order the precision/latitudes.

Tell her to talk to a different rep.

Has she tried to configure it online and place her order without speaking to any Dell employees? There is a required entry field when checking out for 'Company Name', but I've always just repeated my first and last name into there. For instance:

    First Name- Anastasia
    Last Name- Beaverhausen
    Company Name- Anastasia Beaverhausen

It's never been questioned and I've ordered more from Dell Small Business than I can count at the moment!

Good luck...sorry they're being jerks. Insist on speaking with a supervisor!

There is absolutely nothing stopping you from ordering there. I've had this happen once (rep refused to sale) out of probably 10 calls to SMB.

Thank you everybody, I really appreciate the responses. Sounds like someone on the sales team is taking the name of their department way too seriously.

I'm going to help her place the next call so hopefully that will go better. You know me, I'll be back to report if they feed us more fertilizer.

I got an M6400 from the business outlet, about the only difference ordering from the small business then from home is they won't let me use my Dell Preferred account, though considering there interest rate my CC's are a better way to go anyway.
