I will head over to the local gym right away and start beefing up my chest muscles :)

Seriously though, thanks very much for the reply. Knowing that it is OK in your lap is most helpful as that means I can always move a M6500 to my lap if it proves too heavy on my chest.

Just get a nice backpack and you are set. I love my m6500. Just need to fix the bios issue.

Well, that's a case of YMMV.
I had the M6500 on my lap exactly once. The weight was no problem (male, 1.75m, 70kg, well trained cyclist legs - umm... enough self-praise :D ), but the heat that was conducted by the docking port was very uncomfortable. I wore long jeans and only did office tasks. I don't even want to think about having it on my chest.

I think you can skip the gym. The M6500 should give you a nice six-pack within three months. ;)

Now that is clever - placing a fat burner directly on the abdomen :D

    Hello all !

I'm very happy with most things about my Precision M6500, but am a little sad about its temperature.
I think that it is hot, and because of that the fan runs often (not very fast but I hear it).

As I am writing, Hardware monitor tells me that the CPU temperatures range from 44 to 52 °C, and I have only been doing some internet browsing for the about 4 hours since when I woke up the pc, so I would call that idle. It is set on "normal mode" power strategy of Win 7 (in which I have set the processor cooling strategy to "passive", with max speed at 20%).

I reinstalled a fresh Win 7 soon after receiving the machine and it is possible that I don't have the best drivers for everything.

What do you think ? Is this normal and do you get the same kind of temperature ?

    My config is:
    Dell Precision M6500
    Intel Core i7-720QM, 8 G
    ATI FirePro M7740 - 1 Go GDDR5
System disk is Samsung SSD PM800 TH 64G (AHCI)
    Second disk is 500 G

First person to get ahold of one & try to install it in a M6500 gets a cookie.

Funny you mention the heat - mine auto-shut down today because of temperature, said the bootup screen. So put it on the Zalman & all is well again.

Wasn't even doing anything strenuous, just sitting on the tabletop. CPUID says min/max values are 40-78 C

My M6500 should arrive next week. I ordered it with a single 128GB SSD. My plan is to install a HDD for backup. Is there a cradle or caddy needed?

The only caddy I have seen is to replace the optical drive, but my initial plan is to use the second internal bay.

    Thanks
