DP-to-DVI dongle has the active circuit inside to convert DP to DVI signal.
My guess is that the circuit inside of the dongle is not eorking properly. I suspect the dongle as main cause of the issue displaying the B/W. Also, the dongle signals to the DP port that the monitor is present. Based on your description, it seems that the dongle is not relaying the monitor presence. I had few dongle issues before, so I upgrade the monitors to the one that has DP interface. Also, make sure you used the latest Graphic driver from Dell support WEB site. My co-worker mentioned that he had similar problem and updated driver fixed the issue.

I still have the periodic audio dropouts with cubase. I am unable to resolve this issue.

One thing I want to try is disabling hyperthreading of the CPU and preventing the CPU from switching clocks.

In the M6500s' BIOS, there neither is an option to switch off hyperthreading, nor to switch off turbo boosting the CPU with the CPU running with the highest clock rate. (switching off turbo boost results the CPU clocked lowest)

So here's my question: Are there any software cpu tools, that offer the possibility to switch off hyperthreading or preventing the CPU to switch clock rates?

    Hi TabSel,

I was quick enough to grab bios a03 which was removed later on.
It has the HT disable option. Tried it and found that my SSD was performing worse. I have no idea how those two things can relate but turning HT on again braught back the old speed according to "hd tune". With HT enabled I get around 155mb/s with HT disabled I get around 125mb/s.

So even with that bios setting available for me in a03 I stay with HT enabled.
Maybe that helps you to not miss that option too much ;)

There are no active elements in a DisplayPort-DVI(-D)-adapter. It's all passive because the DisplayPort protocoll is downward compatible to DVI-D.
And since both, the docking station DVI port and the DisplayPort of the M6500, show a black/white image it can hardly be related to the DisplayPort-DVI adapter.
If it were an NVIDIA card I'd suggest to try if the same problem exists under Linux. But afaik there is no reasonable driver support for this ATI card so far (I might be wrong).
Is the image of the DisplayPort in black and white too if the docking station is not connected?

    All,

I recently received a M6500 Carbide Silver. How do I verify the display received is RGB LED?

Ordered: 17” UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED Display for M6500 – On packing slip

The part number is P8GC1. A report from Everest Ultimate v5.50.2100 displays the following:

    • Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
    • Monitor ID – LGD0241
    • Manufacturer – DR740_171WU5
    • Date – 2009
    • Aspect Ratio – 16:10
    • Gamma – 2.20

Additionally, should there be drivers specific to this display instead of Windows using Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]? The operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit w/Windows XP Mode.

Lastly, I ordered the 210/240W switchable slim 3-Pin AC adapter with part number K972H. Should the adapter actually have a switch? I was unable to find a picture of the adapter to compare what I received against what ordered but I admit I’m a novice when it comes to adapters. :)

    I appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

There is no switch: The power supply will automatically adapt ("switch") to any voltage between 110V-240V. No external, or physical switch is required for this.

Not sure about your display. If the packing slip says so, then that's what you should have. But no special drivers are needed for your display.

This is your answer, you have LG screen and this model is RGB LED. Moreover this screen is so amazing that you cannot confuse it with white LED.

    No.

In this case I think "switchable" should be understood as removable, so the switch is your hand which change the adapters. :p

    New M6500 delivered on Monday.

Crazy busy with work. Started it up. ok it works. Shut it down. Had some time today, opened it up hit the power button. Nothing.

Light on power supply goes out when plugged into m6500 . Short maybe.

Contacted Dell, support here tomorrow hopefully ( which is pretty good because I live 350km from closest big city)

We shall see how it goes........
