I love my new M4400, I put in my own fujitsu 320GB hard drive but it seems like the machine runs very warm around the hard drive area. Is this normal?

    Hi sixty4

My M4400 gets slightly warm during everyday use, but it's never uncomfortable. I guess everyone's tolerances are different, though.

If the 320GB drive is 7,200rpm, it'll likely be a little hotter than normal. If you're really worried, download some software to check the hard drive temperature. If it's too high, try a laptop cooler or consider replacing the drive.

I think the only time to worry is when it's too hot to comfortably use.

What Bios are you using? I find that A12 and 13 were way too hot. The A14 fixed that and now even after a whole days use its a little hot but not too hot to handle.

Its definately too hot to put on your lap on its own though, I have a hardcover book in between when working with the comp on my lap.

Thanks for the responses, I just posted that the machine burned out @ http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=396064

I was running the BIOS that was loaded from factory from Dell. I spent the last few weeks installing Windows 7, Vista 64 and Windows Server 2008... at least a configuration solid enough for an image.
