Good find. One less device hogging resources, drawing power etc for nothing.

Unfortunately, I need the reader for work.

Who I am = FIPS fingerprint reader
    What I have = SmartCard
    What I know = Password

What's the advantage here -- battery life? My Latitude doesn't have any of the fingerprint reader or SmartCard stuff that I'm aware of, and I've turned off any of the services I could that related to them. Did all the Latitudes come with the radio by default? Is this why some -- think it's in the E6400 thread -- have disconnected the part?

The utility, by the way, rather frighteningly says that "the process is irreversible" or words to that effect. Should I care?

I have the m4400, I ran this utility and realizing there is no "undo." Now I disabled a feature on my laptop permanently, I don't like that idea. Have anyone figured out if this can be reactivated?

"No undo" is right - your only option is to have the motherboard replaced.

There must be a way unless it flashes some chip on your hardware level.

Not questioning your authority, but where did you get this confirmation from?

well all he has to do is restore to default with the recovery partition or find a resource dvd or use his own etc

restore to default and call up and tell them its not working and they will replace it , its a stupid idea to release software that will make a permanent change to hardware , imagine some foolish employee or whatever used this code on his companies network , bye bye all the smart card using laptops ...
