im on the verge of buying a e6400 rite now but need a real quick answer actually 2 i was wondering how the speakers and touchpad compare to the xps 1530? which is better? and does the trackpoint work well?

and if u could choose between a back lit keyboard, wxga screen, and 4 gigs of ram vs wxga+ screen and 2 gigs of ram which would you choose? everything else is the same and the first option costing 20 dollars more.

Speakers are a pair of tweeters. The touchpad and trackpoint are OK.

For me the WXGA+ display is the sweet spot. If I was OK with WXGA I might as well have a smaller notebook. Also, you can be sure that the WXGA+ display uses LED backlighting for better power efficiency.

The backlit keyboard is nice if you work in poor lighting. If you need to compute in the dark then you could do a DIY upgrade. similarly, you can easily upgrade the RAM.

Speakers are unadequate for almost anything beside youtube videos. Headphones are almost required.

As for the trackpad, it is relatively small, but high quality.

Ram upgrades are so cheap, just go for the LED WXGA+ screen. You can upgrade the ram later for a pittance.

Definitely get a backlit keyboard... makes a mobile keyboard useful when the lighting is poor.

Here are Logitech and Microsoft touchpad upgrades.

    Here's a RAM upgrade.

And here's a speaker upgrade. Coupon MW09 was good for 25% off. :)

and if i get a hd thats eide can i upgrade it to a sata hd?

The wxga+ with LED backlighting is quite nice and pushes native resolution to the limit for 14". You'll get a nice image with maximum screen use. I suspect 1440x900 would be a bit more ideal on the 15". With the 14", you can bump the dpi from 96 to 120 to ease the smallness a touch. Older user or users with troubled eyesight might not be most comfortable at this limit... so should consider wxga.

If you need to create DVDs, you need a writer. A DVD writer is a larger capacity archival/backup option, if you need that.

    >>and if i get a hd thats eide can i upgrade it to a sata hd?

I don't think so... different bus and drive circuitry.

I would get the first option.

I got the webcam option but have never used it.
