Hi, I was planing to get a M4400 for my postgraduate project using cinema 4d r11 for 3d animations. But after reading all the threads saying that they are going to return their M4400 to get a M6400, I just got lost.

For my budget is under 1500 pounds, I could have:

    M4400 with 2.53GHz T9400 processor and 4GB memory

    or

    M6400 with basic options: 2.26GHz P8400 and 2GB memory

So it's probably a question of GPU vs. CPU? I'm not very good at the technical thing. Any suggestions?

    Thanx :p

For rendering the CPU is more important in the end....and RAM. If i were you i'd go for the m4400. I do kinda the same stuff as you but in 3dsmax, and not that much animation but still large renderings. I didn't see that many people though returning their m4400 for an m6400. The 6400 does cost a LOT more to get a decent spec

    Thank you :)
I found on notebookcheck they compared m4400 with m6300 using Cinebench r10:

    Dell Precision M6300 T9300, Quadro FX 1600M
    score: 5253

    Dell Precision M4400 T9400, Quadro FX 770M
    score: 5290

For rendering M4400 is a little better, no real differences though, and there isn't any testing of m6400 yet.

True...m4400 is a much newer system than the m6300 though...indeed no results for the m6400 yet. Ofcourse a lot of people are spec'ing it pretty high so i don't know if it's going to be easy finding comparable tests. You could just get a higher processor (and 8gb ram when prices get reasonale)
