But is that only valid if your computer is still covered by its original warranty?
Dell doesn't seem to be aware of this..

haha.. bummer for you that you didn't read the direct2dell article carefully enough. Ireally hope you didn't sent it in yet.

    according to this (official article)
    http://direct2dell.com/one2one/arch...ll-affected-customers-worldwide.aspx#comments

they plan to add 12 months of coverage for this issue to the existing limited warranty up to 60 months from the date of purchase for the following systems
Also details are soon to come.. so be patient for now. (i know it sucks) but its going to be worth saving a couple hundreds. Im guessing the whole warranty thing hasn't gone completely through yet, but its probably what they have in mind.

for now, yeah. I don't think the warranty ran through the system yet. You can keep on calling, but knowing how businesses work, customer service and dell technicians and even repair probably have never heard of this article yet. And if they do, they probably can't do much because the warranty hasn't been added on yet. If I were you, I would call, tell them about their own website article (just tell them to go to direct2dell.com and look at the blog) then argue why your warranty isn't extended if it clearly says it will be on their website. They may tell you that it hasn't come into effect yet but its worth a try and may help cut a couple weeks waiting for a laptop so i wouldn't be scared to try.

Definitely keep me updated with what happened. I come back to the forums to see this bug spreading around and not knowing that I was at risk, being a 1400 owner myself. Ugh, I knew I should've extended my warranty. Expired a few days ago...

Ran into the same sort of problem, except with my M1330 - started dying 2 days after the 1 year warranty. Tech support had no clue, neither did Customer Care. Fortunately, a community liaison contacted me after I posted a comment at Direct2Dell. You should try the same. They'll hook you up with someone who knows more about the warranty extension.

That said, it's been 3 weeks and I still haven't even been able to organize a repair/replacement for my laptop. I'm getting a bit frustrated to say the least.

Talking to someone who did not know what was going on. Should not surprise you you did not get good results. Keep calling tell you get someone who has a clue as others suggested. Also use the info you have (pitz) and any other you dig up.

If the next call is discouraging don't let it be. Stick with it I think you will get satisfaction if you persist.

Edit: And document document I can't say that enough. All agreements and confirmations try and get as Emails.

I've just read The Inquirer's latest instalment on this subject. There's a good semi-technical explanation about how the chips were assembled and what are the inherent problems.
