It could be due to the panel used in the E7440 itself or it could be a combination of things. I don't own an E7440, so I can't even try to recreate the problem. You should definitely contact Dell about this though.

One thing you could try is to disconnect all the antennas from the WLAN and WWAN (if you have one) adapters just to rule out the interference somehow coming from those.

Also, is the power adapter grounded or not?
