I was editing a photo on my M6600, and noticed that a black area in the bottom right looked much brighter than the rest of it.

I use two external monitors - an LG (on the left) and an HP (on the right).

I set all 3 to show 100% black and turned the lights out.

This is what they all look like (the M6600 is in the middle).

    Surely that can't be right??

That's some serious back light bleeding... I would recommend calling dell and seeing about getting the screen replaced.

Thanks, I will do. That will be my FOURTH panel on this computer.

The first one had coloured tints in the corner, so did the second, but also had a dead pixel. The third still has the tints (I've learnt to live with them, must just be a feature(?) of the IPS panel) but now also has this backlight issue...

Isn't this an RGB LED IPS panel?

I would blame the RGB LED's for this terrible tinting/bleed. I dont think many companies have yet R&D' the optimal position of the Red green and blue LED's used and the intensities.
It is similar to the first LCD's having terrible issues compared to CRT, only to be bettered after many years of consumer testing.

Yes it is an RGB LED IPS.

Dell are now saying that there is a screen power supply component they can replace that apparently wasn't available last time... We'll see....

Cool. Hopefully that is the issue!
