missing dvd decoder

    somehow reformatting my dell vostro 1700 xp laptop

    i have lost my dvd drive/decoder for mpeg2 and cannot watch videos off of dvd 's what can i do to restore the lost dvd decoder
    also my warrenty has expired

    Just install the latest version of your favorite media player, e.g. Microsoft Windows Media Player or VLC media player. That should be all you need.

    I think WMP still needs a third party DVD codec to be installed to work - I may be wrong but that used to always be the case.

    I just completed a fresh install of Vista, and didn't need to install anything special. However, I guess that's because I'm on Ultimate edition. The Home Premium edition also has built-in support, as listed at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx. Also at this page are links to 3rd party plugins, all available for purchase I believe.

    does your dell cd packages include cyberlink dvd player...?
    for the e6400, they did include a cd of cyberlink

    no its not included just driver disk and one other for reformatting i think
