Sweet !! Great laptop. I was going for this laptop but the size won't fit for my needs as a university student. So I chose Vostro 1510. I think your laptop is a great deal. Congratulations :)

Got my Vostro 1710 2 days ago and I agree with the all points in the review.
Mine is identical, except I have the T8100 chip and took the Vista Business option (XP pro installed with Vista media). I am in the UK and paid £598.

Re the graphics card, mine arrived with an 8600M GS and was advertised as having an 8600 GT. I have spoke to dell and they've refunded £30 and sent me a carry case aswell, by way of compensation. I believe they are changing the website as it is meant to be a GS in the notebook not a GT.

I haven't checked the memory to see if it is GDDR3, I assumed it was GDDR 2, so I will have a look later.

I can, however highly recommend this laptop. I had an Inspiron 6400 / E1505 before but I couldn't resist the Vostro for the money. I really couldn't find anything to compete with it in the UK. :)

Just rechecked the Dell UK website and the only graphics card option is the GS now, it's obviously been changed.

    You're welcome

Thanks, yea I really like it so far.

I figured that the 8600M gs used in this laptop must be some kind of special edition.

Update: I decided today to return this laptop simply because I think I'll need a higher screen resolution in the future.

This is a screenshot of my Vostro 1710 8600 GS card. As you can see its performance is better than 8600 GT with GDDR2. After a long battle with Dell they confirmed that Vostro 1710 comes only with GS (not GT!!); and it was a misprint on their site (LOL)

So, will you get the same laptop with higher resolution, or a different one?

    Good info-thanks.

The way that they keep changing these things and their model numbers it just keeps getting more confusing!

    Thanks! :)

I haven't decided yet. Right now it's about $50 more and comes with a slower processor (the t8100). I'm either gonna wait for a good deal on the 1710 or wait till the new montevina-equipped laptops come out.
