I am about to buy a Latitude E6400.

I'll be getting the memory in the after market. I have noticed that Dell is selling the laptop with DDR2-800 MHz memory. Is this the fastest memory the laptop memory slots can handle, or if I were to buy DDR3 memory I could put it in?

    Thanks.

I do not think DDR3 would physically fit and i think DDR2-800 would be the fastest the laptop could take.

DDR2-800 is the fastest it can handle atm. DDR3 modules are not compatible, as the sockets are different.

I purchased the following from NewEgg.com:

    OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory - Retail

    Item#:N82E168202272514

It was $60.99 plus a $20.00 mail in rebate. I have it installed and it works great. My Windows XP install is 32bit so I can only see 3.5GB

    Hope this helps.
