    We received some of our latest E6500's yesterday so I started looking into some of the parts that were included.

    Among other things both of these systems have 15" WXGA+ WLED screens.
    The hardware ID is AUO4277. This doesn't match an LG or Samsung manufactured screen...so I started digging.

    Turns out it's made by AUO Optronics
    Specs are here - and they look very good;

    These screens are bright, very vibrant, excellent contrast and overall just terrific screens. So we got curious and placed it next to a Macbook Pro...we can't tell the difference between them !:eek:

    Now I know why ...turns out AUO Optronics also supplies Apple for the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro screens. Google for other sources.

    Way to go Dell ! :)

    p.s sorry to start a new thread, but the previous one had a somewhat cryptic topic before I knew what this screen was and since this is significant news that most people will otherwise miss.

    Just to clarify...

    There are four screens used for MBP - LG, Samsung, CMO and AUO. Basically, Apple has used almost every supplier that makes WXGA+ screens with LED backlighting.

    And even though that MBP is usually praised for screen quality, there is quite a difference between the different screens, sometimes even between screens by the same manufacturer... not everyone has been happy with their screen and there have been variety of issues with some of them. That's the story and is why I don't like to generalize about brands and screen quality.

    Thanks for sharing anyway.

    Where are the pics? Die specs don't look that great.

    Thanks for this!

    It's really annoying to read all those threads like "LG is better, Samsung is better, grainy, AUO....", and those people who write: " I like my display very much, but I'm afraid I've got a xxxx" :rolleyes:

    If you like the display great, if you got a bad one call Dell to replace it!

    I'm sure there was a point to your post ....but I missed it sorry.

    You know, the nice thing about discussion forums is if something annoys you, you can just ignore it and go to another thread :)
