I got the M6700 with Win7 and the 3D screen and I'm trying the upgrade to WIndows 8. The problem is that when I set it to not 'load option roms' and for 'secure boot', there is no output to the display and the machine is basically bricked. I tried to remove the CMOS battery but it hasn't helped since it appears that BIOS A11 resets to the defaults for Windows 8 and not Windows 7. This isn't an issue withOptimus since it uses the Intel GPU for output, but Optimus is disabled with the IPS and 3D screens.

Dell will be swapping the motherboard, but would anyone be so kind to upload the video bios for a K4000m working with Windows 8 and secure boot? Some people have said that simply upgrading the BIOS solves the issue. The simplest way to get the BIOS is from GPU-z, the button is next to the BIOS version. Thank you!

I have a K4000M, but this needs a later version of the video BIOS with a fix for this - those were posted on these forums for K5000M and K3000M, but I didn't spot one for K4000M yet. I don't understand why Dell doesn't post these on the drivers page!? One can get the impression that it's cheaper for them to perform on-site maintenance and replace components directly..

But how will you upgrade to Win 8 then? Your best bet is to ask Dell for a K4000M replacement with a new BIOS and then you can upload it for the rest of us :) (I presume this is how the other two BIOS versions were procured as seen in the main thread, post #2394).

This issue is documented in the M6700 owner's thread and you're right, a GPU BIOS image is needed to fix it. Alternatively, you can run the system with legacy option ROMs enabled (and secure boot disabled) and you'll be fine. Secure boot isn't actually required to use Windows 8. (I think Windows 8.1 throws a notice that secure boot is not configured correctly, though.)

We only have updated images for the K3000M and K5000M. If you run across a K4000M image elsewhere, please post it back here so that we can keep it on file in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Dell replaced the GPU with a second revision of the K4000M that is explicitly listed as compatible with Windows 8 and it works with secure boot. The BIOS is version 80.04.5A.00.02 from 8/12/2012 and it's twice the size of the old one. The strange part is that the Dell tech said they can't flash the BIOS because of some hardware difference. I don't know if that is true since it's worked for other people. Anyway, the K4000M BIOS from my GPU is here:

Thanks, I saved the BIOS image so I now have images on file for the K3000M, K4000M, and K5000M.
Confirming that I've flashed the BIOS image on the K5000M with the newer version successfully without issue... Don't see why it wouldn't work also with K3000M/K4000M.

Was hoping something like this would happen, thanks. I'll try to flash mine with it later.

Can you post your results? Was the flash successful? Thanks!

Sorry, I remembered that I need an unlocked VBIOS so that I can overclock the video card. Have to post it to TechInferno forums for unlocking first (and remember my login)..
