I am new to this forum and new to the Dell Precision line of mobile workstations. I am hoping someone can answer some questions for me regarding a M6600 with i5-2520m. How well does this processor handle gaming? Starcraft 2? Other games? I initially didn't want to step up to the 2760qm simply because of how much Dell charges for it, but would it be worth me buying a QS processor off ebay?

    I use this computer for:
Browsing the web, some photo and video editing, and mild-moderate gaming.

I've heard these computers are built well, is that true?

*Also If I upgrade my CPU from 2520m to 2760qm(35w vs 45w), do I need a new heatsink?*

    Thank you.

You do not need a new heatsink in the M6600 series as there is only 1 model for any compatible cpu out there.

For your usage scenario I would say the i5 is sufficient; If later down the road it proves not to, I would advise getting an OEM cpu rather then a QS/ES (still from ebay, not Dell itself), just a personal preference.

And yes, these computers are truly well built.

Thank you for the reply. I'm glad the heatsink is universal because thats just an unnecessary cost. I've been reading through the board in order to get a better understanding of this particular line of notebook computers. It has proven to be a great resource.

    Thank you

Actually the M6700 has different HS depending on the type of cpu you have installed but that's not the case for the M6600.

Even if you needed a new heatsink, mine cost me ~25$ including shipping so it's not too expensive.
