    Hi,

I received my M6600 yesterday. Great laptop but awful display (Chi Mei), much worse than my Latitude 6500 display! It really is as if there was a plastic film causing the display to be less readable and taking light and clarity from it.

I just contacted Dell support (France) by mail to ask them for an exchange.
I hope they are as reactive as in the USA.

This laptop is huge compare to a Latitude, but with better quality and performance.

I hope Dell will correct the flaw in the display, then it will really be a dream machine

jrogers81, I am in State College, PA too. I just got a M6600 couple of days ago with almost identical spec as yours w/ M8900 (RAM, SSD were upgraded w/ after market to 8GB, 120GB, etc). Just an FYI that you have a local forum friend!

Maybe, just 'maybe', because nobody knows the answer? ;)

In any case, IMHO, make the effort and get the 2960XM... :D

I am actually attending the World Campus while deployed to Afghanistan. I am waiting for the acceptance letter so I can register for the course. What program are you in? What made you choose this specific laptop? Good luck in school!

I hope they udpate to the new CPUs before I order at the end of the month *fingers crossed*

If they put in the 2960XM, it would be WAY too expensive to justify. I am looking at the 2720QM config which will still put me at $2100 with my business discount. I don't think I can splurge for the top card, just too much for not enough real world difference.

The 2720QM is still the best value and there is almost no difference in [real world] performance between the 2720QM and the 2760QM.

    FYI Guys -
The HP nVidia 4000M card (HP/PN 647178-001) is identicle to the Dell version and even shows up as a "Dell" card in HWiNFO64. I had to share this because I am very happy... and was able to grab one from a surplus sale for less than $280! :D

    Scott-

The WEI is not as high as a AMD M8900, but it is still blazing fast and my professional software will make good use of the CUDA cores.

I was mainly looking for desktop replacement for photo editing, computational stuff, etc. Was looking at the Dell XPS 17 line and I came across a very decently priced M6600 online and jumped at. I am not with Penn State.

Scott, I assume one can't just upgrade by swapping out the GPU from FirePro M8900 to nVidia 4000m, right? I read somewhere that the cooling/heat sink is diff between the AMD/ATI is diff from nVidia series...

If in the future I want to go from M8900 to the nVidia series, what other parts do I need on top of the nVidia GPU?

    Thanks.
