Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster here. I have had my M6600 for couple of months now, it has an IPS screen and a 3000m GPU. Under windows 7 sometimes the screen would just go black and I had to close the lid and open it back up and it would start working and windows would display a message stating that the video card has crashed. I have since upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64BIT and I'm running the latest driver from Nvidia's site ver. 307.45. This started happening more and more under Win 8 (couple of times a day). Is there anything that can be done and what is the cause of this problem. Thanks in advance

    GPU: 3000M
    CPU: I7 2760QM
HDD: 128GB CRUCIAL M4 SSD AND 750GB HDD
    RAM: 8GB

I had a problem like this on my previous laptop (not a Precision but it did have an NVIDIA card) and it ended up being that the graphics card needed to be replaced.

Flash seems to cause this from time to time, when going from maximum windows to minimizing it just freezes and goes black. Is there a way to diagnose the root cause of the issue? Any other inputs would be appreciated

Have your 3000m replaced with a rev2 card. It's a known issue. I just had mine replaced and then Dell decided that with how it was handled by the third party that messed with my bios and killed my RAID 0 configuration after the install to swap me a brand new m6700 covet. I had the m6500 covet. Dell has really gone above and well beyond for me.

I also noticed that issue only happened when I was plugged in. Without it it would not have the issue.

I bought my M6600 from ebay and I'm not sure what version of the card i have. I have squaretrade warranty on it though, I might be able to swap it or get my money back. Is there a way to check the version of the card, will cpuz detect?

Vahe87 - try to check the Device Manager on the card and see if you can see Revision. Ask Dell or someone on here that is more familiar as I am sure there is way to tell. I can tell you from experience it is most likely the video card and not the driver if you are exhibiting those kind of problems. Also test it by fully charging it and while the power plug is still in see if you can replicate the problem. Mine was more frequent with flash sites and website browsing and it would just blank out on me. Once I pulled the power plug it was not do it. Something with the voltage and the graphics card for me. The Dell Technician that was assigned to me knew of the problem and told me they had a revision 2 of the card and sent a tech to replace mine. In the end they replaced my laptop due to the tech messing up my RAID during the installation process.
