M6400 without Bluetooth Module will come Pre-Wired for the Bluetooth Card ?

Hi, I bought at DELL OUTLET a M6400 without the Bluetooth Module, I will buy it separate from DELL, do you know if the Bluetooth antenas will be Pre-Wired in the notebook ?, actually I am buying the DELL 410 Bluetooth + UWB card, meaning I need the Pre-Wiring for Bluetooth and UWB ?, thanks

 

I'm 99.9% sure the antenna wire will be there: I can see an unconnected wire next to the WPAN slot on my E6400. I think Dell decided that it would be logistically easier to put all the wires in, even if it costs another 10 cents in materials.

The antennas are built in the screen frame, so every M6400 has all antennas preinstalled. I couldn't order bluetooth when I ordered my M6400 and installed it aftermarket.

 

See the service manual for which of the several mini-PCIe slots is intended for the WPAN/BT card.

I didn't get Bluetooth because it wasn't available when I placed my order. Instead I bought a small USB BT adaptor for the few occasions when I want to use BT.

sorry for asking, but what's the benefit of getting the DELL 410 Bluetooth + UWB card vs the normal dell bluetooth module? I have an e6500 without bluetooth and wanted to add it in myself. So please let me know. Thanks

 

The UWB gives you wireless USB, which is pretty worthless due to unreliable WUSB hubs on the market.

Dell tech support may tell you that only the ATG models have the antennas in the screen assembly but they are wrong.

I have installed a Sprint + GPS card and it worked fine once the ControlPoint software was removed.

I was looking for the Bluetooth card in my system and I could not figure out what card it was, I think it is hidden if factory installed.

 

I received one of those cheap bluetooth sticks for free. I was wondering if using that is good enough or does the dell bluetooth module a better device? All I'm using the bluetooth for is connecting my blackberry to transfer files and use it as a modem when I don't have internet acess.

 

well its not as convenient, since it sticks out. its up to you if you want to pay for a internal card.

the reception on the internal one MAY be a little better, but from what you say it dosent sound like you're gonna be doing anything that needs bluetooth range.

i got mine with internal bluetooth because i use my smartphone for internet access quite a lot.

 

This is my Bluetooth USB dongle, so it doesn't stick out much. It seems to be OK for short range use.
